A Police Department in Florida has a county wide digital radio system, but this small department needed to communicate with the department’s officers on local police calls.

The department demoed another companies PoC (PTT over cellular) to test the coverage and audio. Satisfied with both they decided to purchase some. The other company did not have a car kit available to turn a handheld into a mobile.

They decided to choose the Hytera PNC380s handheld for its high quality audio and the optional car Kit. This turned the portable radio into a mobile radio. It is hard wired and has a palm microphone connected to it. The car kit also charges the radio while it is in the cradle. The officer can then take the radio from the cradle and now use it as a portable.

The department purchased 8 radios and 3 car kits for the patrol vehicles. The radio has different channels for different patrol zones and the supervisors can monitor all the channels if needed. They also purchased dispatch software to use in central dispatch to communicate and track officers in the field.
