A towing company in Upstate New York leased radios on a wide area Motorola digital system and the lease was coming to an end. The owner had talked to a waste hauling company that had just switched to a PoC(PTT over Cellular) system and liked the expanded coverage and lower cost.
They have chosen the Hytera MNC360 Mobile radio that would be installed in the trucks. Because they have a much larger coverage need and they travel into the Adirondack Park, they decided to use the existing antenna mount on the roof with an LTE antenna to maximize coverage.
The installation was so easy, they decided to install the radio themselves. They reused the Motorola power cable, installed the external antenna, installed the GPS antenna on the dashboard and used an adapter on the antenna cable. They saved a few thousand dollars on the removal and installation of the new radios.
The cost of a new Hytera radio compared to the cost of the Motorola digital radio was much lower, they decided to buy the radios outright and just pay the monthly airtime. This was a huge reduction in expenses.
They used the PNC380S portable radios at the offices and installed dispatch software with a big monitor to track the vehicles.
The biggest difference between the Hytera and competing PoC radios was that all Hytera radios have built in Wi-Fi and this came in handy in the office where cell coverage was poor. They could use the Wi-Fi in the office and switched automatically when they left the office.
